South West Coast Path in Winter

- December 7, 2018 -

With the dark evenings drawing in and winter clothes coming out, the South West Coast Path offers a different face for the lucky few that can still make it out. For those who don’t mind a bit of wind and the odd shower, there are miles of empty coast path, brooding skies and cosy pub fires waiting here in Cornwall.

Of course the path can become muddy and so you will need a decent pair of boots, a good rain jacket and a sense of adventure.

These are two of our favourite winter walks:

Sennen Cove to Porthcurno – 6 miles

Watch the full force of the Atlantic unload onto the mainland UK’s most westerly cliffs. Huge waves send spray tens of metres into the air so if you want to stay dry, this may not be the walk for you.

Praa Sands to Porthleven – 4.5 miles

Okay, its only a short walk along the south coast but on a sunny afternoon this is a stunning walk where you can still soak some winter sunshine. On the less sunny days we like to end the walk in one of Porthleven’s cosy pubs:

Ship Inn

Harbour Inn
